The hidden extras in an All-on-6 price
A headline price rarely tells the whole story. These are the extras that most often turn a low quote into a higher bill.
The extras most often missing from an All-on-6 headline price are bone grafts, sinus lifts, the 3D scan, extractions, the final bridge, hotel nights, an extra trip if something needs adjusting, repairs to the teeth over the years, and check-ups with a UK dentist. Ask for every one of them to be priced in writing before you pay a deposit.
Extras from the treatment itself
| Extra | When it comes up | Ask |
|---|---|---|
| Bone graft | The scan shows too little bone in places | Price per cc or per site, in advance |
| Sinus lift | Upper jaw, where the sinus sits low | Price per side, in advance |
| Zygomatic implants | Severe bone loss in the upper jaw | Whether they're needed, and the price each |
| 3D scan | Before the plan is final | Is it included? |
| Extractions | If you still have teeth | Included, or per tooth? |
| Final bridge | On the second trip | Is it in the price, and what is it made of? |
| Night guard | If you grind or clench | Is one included? |
Extras from being treated abroad
- A longer stay. Healing doesn't always follow the plan. The NHS advises allowing for extending your stay.
- An extra trip. If a bridge needs adjusting, you pay the flights again, and possibly a hotel.
- A companion. Many people bring someone after surgery. Their flights count too.
- Exchange rates. If you're quoted in euros or lira, the pound can move between booking and paying.
- Travel insurance that covers you around planned treatment. Tell your insurer about your plans.
Extras over the years
All-on-6 needs looking after for life. Budget for regular check-ups and hygiene visits, and for the teeth on top to need repair or replacement at some point. Gum problems around implants are not rare: a large review summarised by the British Society of Periodontology found peri-implantitis affected about one in five patients over time, and treating it adds cost. See the lifetime cost.
The most expensive extra is putting right treatment that went wrong. The Oral Health Foundation warns that fixing problems later can cost more than the original treatment.
Turn the extras into numbers
Enter each extra your clinic quoted, plus your travel, in the calculator. Anything that's missing appears as a question to ask.
Common questions
How do I know if I'll need a bone graft?
Only from a scan. A 3D scan shows how much bone you have and where. Ask for the price of a graft before you travel, so a surprise doesn't change your budget.
What is a sinus lift?
A procedure in the upper jaw that adds bone under the sinus so implants have enough to hold on to. It's only needed for some patients and is usually priced separately.
Who pays if something goes wrong after I'm home?
It depends entirely on the clinic's terms. The Oral Health Foundation advises asking who pays for extra travel, accommodation or corrective work before you go ahead.
Are repairs to the teeth covered for life?
No treatment comes with a lifetime guarantee. The Oral Health Foundation notes there is no lifetime guarantee for implants, and the teeth on top can need repair over the years.
